According to Article 11 of the Law on Turkish Citizenship No. 5901 of May 29, 2009 foreign citizens can apply for Turkish citizenship in the following cases: by naturalization, through marriage, employment or at birth. Passports are also issued for special merits to athletes, scientists, and cultural figures.

Requirements for an applicant for citizenship on a general basis:

  • Reaching the age of majority.
  • Residence on the territory of the republic for at least 8 years with a residence permit.
  • Having a stable income and an official job.
  • Absence of diseases that pose a danger to society.
  • Absence of offenses specified in the criminal code.
  • Knowledge of the Turkish language at a conversational level.

Turkish Citizenship by Investment

The Turkey Citizenship by Investment (TCBI) program allows you to obtain Turkish citizenship for investing in the country's economy in an accelerated manner.

There are 5 investment options:

  1. Purchase of real estate.
  2. Deposit in a Turkish bank.
  3. Purchase of government bonds.
  4. Purchase of shares in an investment fund.
  5. Investment in business.

Obtaining Turkish citizenship by investing in real estate

According to the legislation of the Republic of Turkey, any foreigner who buys real estate in the territory of the state with a cadastral value of more than $400,000 can apply for citizenship

Several requirements must be met:

  • You can register ownership of one or more objects, regardless of the intended purpose: it can be residential or commercial real estate, or a land plot.
  • The previous owner of the property must be a Turkish citizen or a Turkish company.
  • A property can participate in the investment program only once.
  • Real estate cannot be sold for 3 years, but it can be rented out.

The investor is not required to reside in the territory of the Turkish Republic either before or after obtaining citizenship. In addition, there is no requirement to pass exams on knowledge of the Turkish language and the history of the country.

Together with the main applicant, his first-degree relatives: husband/wife and minor children can apply for citizenship. Under the terms of the program, children over 18 years of age and parents of the investor can obtain a residence permit in Turkey.

List of required documents

  • Completed application form of the applicant on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkey
  • Valid ID or passport;
  • Turkish tax number
  • Valid short-term residence permit
  • Certificate of ownership (TAPU)
  • Real Estate Valuation Report (Certificate of Compliance)
  • Earthquake Insurance (DASK)
  • Birth Certificate
  • Document confirming marital status
  • Health insurance policy
  • Certificate of no criminal record
  • 4 color photos of the biometric sample (35 x 45 mm);
  • Receipts for payment of consular fees and service fees.

Important! Documents issued in another country must be translated into Turkish and apostilled.
